Welcome to the weird mind of David Redl, capable computer scientist, sometimes ScrumMaster, and aspiring author.
I am passionate about stories and started this blog to share my experiences with the written word as a reader and, hopefully someday, an author.
My family and I are blessed to live and work on Treaty 7 land in Alberta, Canada.

In my last post, I discussed one of the graphic novels chosen by Queereads YYC for their November 2021 discussion. The other graphic novel chosen for the same discussion was Woman World by Aminder Dhaliwal, a Canadian animator.
Woman World began its life in a biweekly serialized format on Instagram. As I don’t spend much time on that platform, I managed to miss out on it until the published book came up. The art style is different from most graphic novels I’ve read and actually reminded me of some of my favourite newspaper comics from my childhood. I found the playful art paired well with the whimsical premise of a post-apocalyptic post-men society.
Despite having a generously sized core cast, the women of Woman World feel unique and complex, their relationships compelling and relatable. In sharing these diverse stories in this fictional world, Aminder Dhaliwal explored many of the concerns and experiences shared by all people including our search for meaning, our struggle with doubt, and our desire for community. I highly recommend this book to fans of graphic novels or insightful comedy.
